Miamisburg - Miamisburg voters went to the polls Tuesday to decide on two school levies, and in the end voters passed one and failed the other. That means Miamisburg City Schools is staring at a $4.5 million budget deficit for next year. Residents overwhelmingly passed a replacement levy that's been on the books for six years, but an additional emergency operating levy failed at the polls, with 47% for and 53% against.
After the results were final, Superintendent Dr. Dallas Clark, thanked voters for coming out to support the levies, but also cautioned that the looming cuts will change the way the district has to do business.
''We're looking at a minimum of $4.5 million in cuts, that will mean the loss of 100 plus jobs and a number of different programs across the board, Dr. Jackson told us, ''the education that people are accustomed to here in Miamisburg is going to look a lot different if we have to go through with those cuts.''
Dr. Jackson says he will get with the school board to decide if putting a levy on the May ballot is something they want to pursue. If it is, they will have to act quickly.

DuPont to begin second round of blood tests for C8
March 16, 2010 04:15 EDT

PARKERSBURG, W.Va. (AP) -- People near DuPont's Washington Works plant will undergo another round of tests to measure whether a chemical used to produce Teflon is affecting immune systems.

The chemical known as PFOA, or C8, contaminated water supplies in six water districts in West Virginia and Ohio, and is a suspected carcinogen.

More than 60,000 people in the Parkersburg area have already been tested under the settlement of a class-action lawsuit.

The new round of blood tests and questionnaires will randomly test about 800 people from that first group.

Dr. Tony Fletcher says the tests will focus on the immune system and infectious disease, the endocrine system and thyroid disease.

DuPont has installed water filtration systems and cut C8 emissions into air and water.
