Montgomery County - A former Trotwood police officer is indicted for a murder that happened 18 years ago. A Montgomery County Grand Jury handed down an indictment Wednesday, against 43 year old Tommy Swint. The indictment claims that Swint killed 33 year old Tina Marie Ivery in December 1991. Her body, which had been beaten and strangled, was found near a trash pile in Jefferson Township.
Wednesday afternoon, this story took another deadly turn, when authorities in Alabama, where Swint now lives, went to serve his arrest warrant, Swint shot and killed himself.
Swint's death leaves behind, not one, but two mysteries because back in 2007, Swint lost his job as a Trotwood police officer, when he was named a ''person of interest'' in the disappearance of Niqui McCown of Richmond, Indiana. McCown went missing in 2001 and to this day has never been found.
At that time Swint held a press conference claiming he was questioned by Richmond police, but never knew he was considered a ''person of interest''.
Swint was never charged in the McCown case.
After that, Swint moved to Alabama, where Wednesday, his past apparently caught up to him. With his death goes possible answers, two local families have been waiting a long time for.

Officer dies after Ohio foot chase

CLEVELAND HEIGHTS, Ohio (AP) -- A police officer in the Cleveland area has died after collapsing during a foot chase.
Thirty-year-old Thomas Patton II had been on the Cleveland Heights force for seven years. He was the son of state Sen. Thomas Patton.
Police Chief Martin Lentz says several officers were chasing someone near a Marc's discount store at about 8:45 p.m. Saturday when Patton stopped suddenly and doubled over then began running again before collapsing.
Lentz says Patton died at a local hospital.
