TROY -- An eight month old boy is dead, his parents have been charged in the death, and their close-knit community is in mourning.

Residents of the Hilltop Community in Troy at first were outraged, then overcome with grief as they mourn the loss of the young life.

"I don't know what an eight month old can do to that would make someone hurt him," said one neighbor in the community.

Teddy bears and balloons took the place of the spot where the baby used to play. Local kids and parents created a memorial. Some shocked by the tragedy, others telling Dayton's News Source the writing was on the wall.

"Like the other day they said the kid had bruises all over his forehead and no one's done nothing because... I don't know why no ones done nothing," said a neighbor.

Troy Police were called to the home on Hilltop Drive Monday afternoon. The caller said she was Tara Durig and her eight month old baby boy was not breathing. When medics arrived the child was unresponsive, and pronounced dead.

"I don't know the circumstances but it's disgusting to think that people do this," said a neighbor.

Durig and her husband Jason Durig were arrested and charged with a felony for child endangering, but this is not Jason Durig's first charge. Back in 2007, he was sentenced to 18 months in jail for child abuse. Their then one month-old son was taken away, and now their eight month-old is dead.

"It's sa, really it is… they've already hurt one baby, I don't get how they can even begin to have another child and children services not even be no way or form involved," said one neighbor.

Through letters and songs neighbors prayed for the baby gone too soon, hoping perhaps this death will send others a message.

"And maybe that was the point… we need to be there," said a neighbor.8 month-old Baby Dead; Parents Charged
